Whip up delicious, fudgy brownies using your homemade baking mix or something from the store like Bisquick or other pancake mix.
This simple recipe is easy to bake for whenever you need a dessert or treat that is sure to please every chocolate lover.

Start with a Baking Mix
While you can, of course, make brownies from a homemade brownie mix or store-bought brownie mix, this recipe starts with a baking mix, like Bisquick, or a homemade substitute – most likely any pancake mix would work.
This makes for quick and easy dessert making that turns out a wonderful, fudgy treat.

Unsweetened Chocolate
You will need unsweetened chocolate for these brownies which add a different, richer flavor than the mixes that only use cocoa powder. Do use unsweetened chocolate as there’s plenty of sugar in the recipe to make them sweet.
One Pan
Because the chocolate and butter need to be melted, you can mix this entire recipe up in the saucepan. Use a larger saucepan than you would need for just the butter and chocolate so you can add the other ingredients and easily stir it all together.
Optional Additions
The recipe as written turns out a lovely plain brownie, however, there are ways to make it even more special or delightful
- Stir in up to 1/2 cup of chopped nuts if you like brownies with nuts.
- Add up to 1 teaspoon of instant espresso for a mocha like flavor.
- Stir in up to 1/2 cup of chocolate chips for even more chocolate layers.
- Make the brownies extra decadent by frosting with a chocolate or even cream cheese frosting.

Make a Big Batch
If you want to bake a bigger batch, simply double and bake in a 9X13″ baking pan. You may need to add a bit of baking time, simply watch and test with a toothpick for doneness.
These are great for serving at a pot luck or even making for a quick bake sale item, so feel free to make the bigger batch as necessary.

How to Serve
Brownies are meant to be a simple, rich dessert. Serve them with your favorite hot or cold beverages for an easy week-night treat.
You could always top them with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream for a bigger treat.
A dollop of whipped cream is nice, too.
Don’t overthink it brownies are meant to be simple.

How to Store
Keep baked and cooled brownies in an air-tight container where they should stay fresh for up to 5 days at room temperature.
For long term storage, put the brownies in a freezer bag and freeze. Eat up frozen brownies within 6 months for best flavor. Let frozen brownies thaw on the counter prior to serving.
