This cake was wonderful! My only concern is that the cake was very sweet even though the recipe does not call for sugar. Perhaps the icing (powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract) made the cake sweeter. I would recommend no icing or powdered sugar.

In reply to Carol. The recipe says to test for doneness. You should always test a cake by inserting a toothpick or wooden skewer or other kind of tester to make sure the center comes out clean. If there's batter attached, it's not quite done. Oven temperatures can sometimes be off, water content in the apple pie filling could also make it take longer to cook.

I tried this recipe and although it’s tasty, it did not cook fully in the middle. I baked it for the allotted time and it looked great but sadly the middle is soggy. What did I do wrong?

I used yellow cake mix, oil, and the apple pie spice substitutes and we loved this cake!
